Lotus Blossom (1368-1644)

Dated 1368-1644, "Lotus Blossom" is an artwork by Anonymous. About the period around 1368-1644: Pigments, gold leaf, and carefully prepared supports were chosen for durability, which is one reason so many surviving images can still be studied closely today. Art made before 1400 spans many cultures at once, from Byzantine icons and Gothic cathedral painting in Europe to Islamic book arts and the Chinese and Japanese traditions of ink and silk painting. It is listed in the Plants & Animals collection. The image is in landscape orientation. Plants & Animals, a short history: Images of plants and animals run from medieval herbals and bestiaries to the scientific illustration of the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. Naturalists and artists often worked together, especially on voyages and in published surveys of flora and fauna.

"Lotus Blossom" is offered as a printable file (Digital JPEG + PDF files, 300 DPI) rather than a shipped item. You receive the files by email after payment and handle printing yourself, which gives you full control over paper, size, and finish. A landscape format suits wide, low wall spaces such as the stretch above a bed, mantel, or sideboard. Measuring the wall before choosing a size is the simplest way to avoid a print that feels too small or too large. Screens and printers render colour differently, so a small test print is a sensible way to check tones before committing to a large size. Matte and fine-art papers reduce glare in bright rooms, while glossy papers give stronger contrast and deeper blacks. Hang the print away from direct sunlight, which over the years can fade any printed colour.
