Ein Sommertag (1925)

"Ein Sommertag" (1925) is a work by Leo Putz. About the period around 1925: Dada and Surrealism followed the First World War, the Bauhaus school was founded in 1919, and Art Deco became the fashionable decorative style of the 1920s and 1930s. Posters, magazines, and illustrated books were major ways for the public to meet new art and design. Background on Figurative: Portraits, group scenes, studies of the nude, and pictures of daily life all belong to figurative art. Figurative art depicts people and recognisable scenes, and it has been central to European painting since antiquity. It is listed in the Figurative collection. The image is in square orientation.

A square format is flexible and works well on its own or as part of a grid on a gallery wall. If you are unsure about size, measure the wall first, then pick a frame whose proportions follow the image. Screens and printers render colour differently, so a small test print is a sensible way to check tones before committing to a large size. Hang the print away from direct sunlight, which over the years can fade any printed colour. Choosing a standard frame size and printing to fit it often saves the cost of custom framing.

German, 1869–1940
