Christ Blessing (c. 1310)

"Christ Blessing" (c. 1310) is a work by Grifo di Tancredi. Context for c. 1310: Art made before 1400 spans many cultures at once, from Byzantine icons and Gothic cathedral painting in Europe to Islamic book arts and the Chinese and Japanese traditions of ink and silk painting. Pigments, gold leaf, and carefully prepared supports were chosen for durability, which is one reason so many surviving images can still be studied closely today. Background on Religion: Religious painting is among the largest bodies of art ever made, from altarpieces, icons, and illuminated manuscripts to devotional prints. Christian art follows long-established iconography, such as the Madonna and Child, the Annunciation, and the Crucifixion. The catalogue places it in Religion. The format is portrait.

A portrait format suits narrow wall spaces, hallways, and the area beside a door or window. If you are unsure about size, measure the wall first, then pick a frame whose proportions follow the image. Hang the print away from direct sunlight, which over the years can fade any printed colour. Choosing a standard frame size and printing to fit it often saves the cost of custom framing. Screens and printers render colour differently, so a small test print is a sensible way to check tones before committing to a large size.
