It brings together printed images, book and periodical illustrations, decorative plates, caricature, visual ephemera and related works that share the catalogue's controlled Illustration genre tag.

The featured selection is intentionally bounded and diverse: it is a way into the archive, not a claim that these are the most important works or a complete scholarly catalogue.

Illustration is a broad historical description, not a guarantee of one medium or use. A record may document a printed plate, a book or magazine image, a caricature, a decorative design, an illustrated scene or another image-based work. Date labels and creator information are supplied only where the current catalogue records contain them. The index therefore supports comparison and discovery, while the linked artwork page remains the right place to inspect the information attached to a particular record.

The index deliberately reuses established public artwork and artist routes instead of generating new combinations of filters. That keeps the collection useful as an overview: researchers can move from a broad visual starting point to a named creator, a period hub or a single record without treating arbitrary search parameters as separate archival pages.

Record-level context and source detail vary, and this index does not make a collection-wide public-domain, copyright-free or commercial-use claim.
